NUMERICAL MODEL FOR FLOW THROUGH SUBMERGED VEGETATION REGIONS IN A SHALLOW LAKE

Aquaticvegetationhasasignificantimpactonwatercurrents.Toevaluatetheeffectsofchangesintheaquaticvegetationonwatercurrentsofdifferentvelocity,a3-Dhydrodynamicmodelwasthendevelopedbytakingintoconsiderationoftheadditionalhydraulicresistanceoftheaquaticplants.TheNavier-StokesequationswerethensolvedusingtheSIMPLEmethodandthek-εturbulencemodel.CalculationsusingtheestablishedmodelswereusedtoforecasttheverticaldistributionofthehorizontalvelocityandhorizontalflowunderthetransmissionconditionsoftheSouth-NorthWaterpersionintheNansiLake.Andcomparativecalculationfortheflowvelocitywasalsoperformedusingthesimplifiedmethodofassigningahighroughnesscoefficienttothelakebedinthesamearea.Resultssuggestthataddingadditionalhydraulicresistanceoftheaquaticplantsisfeasible.Thecalculationerrorsbetweensimulationresultandthefieldobserveddataaresmallerthan15%,while,thoseerrorsareupto35%iftheinfluenceofaquaticvegetationisdealtwiththesimplifiedmethod.
