简介：Intheanalysisanddesignofimportantstructureswithrelativelylonglifespans,thereisaneedtogeneratestrongmotiondataforpossiblelargeevents.Thesourceofanearthquakeischaracterizedbythespatialdistributionofsliponthefaultplane.Forfutureevents,thisisunknown.Inthispaper,astochasticearthquakesourcemodelisdevelopedtoaddressthisissue.Here,1Dand2DstochasticmodelsforslipdistributiondevelopedbyLavalléeetal.(2006)areused.Therandomfieldassociatedwiththeslipdistributionisheavy-tailedstabledistributionwhichcanbeusedforlargeevents.Using236pastrupturemodels,thespectralscalingparameterandthefourstableorLevy’sparametersagainstempiricalrelationshipforknownquantitieslikemagnitudeorfaultlengtharedeveloped.Themodelisvalidatedwithdatafrom411stationsof1999Chi-Chiearthquake.Thesimulatedresponsespectrumshowedgoodagreementtoactualdata.Furthertheproposedmodelisusedtogenerategroundmotionforthe1993KillariEarthquakewherestrongmotiondataisnotavailable.Thesimulatedmeanpeakgroundvelocitywasinturnrelatedtotheintensity(MSK)andcomparedagainstvaluesintheliterature.

简介：ThereisagoodcorrelationbetweenanomalousSchumannresonanceandseismicactivities.Pre-earthquakeanomalousSchumannresonanceisanimportantmanifestationofLAIC(Lithosphere-Atmosphere-IonosphereCoupling),whichisprobablyassociatedwithseismicionosphericdisturbance.TheobservationsystemparametersoftheYunnanSchumannresonancemonitoringstationsandtheresultsofstatisticalandseismiccasesanalysisareintroducedinthispaper.ThreedaysbeforetheMarch10,2011MS5.8Yingjiangearthquake,anomalousSchumannresonanceintheBycomponent(E-W)wasobservedbyYongshengstation,andtwodaysbeforetheLincangMS4.0earthquakeofJanuary23,2011,anomalousSchumannresonanceintheBycomponentwasdetectedbythesamestation.SpectrumanalysisresultsontheBycomponentobservationsofTonghaistationshowthatstrongdisturbanceswereobservedinspectraldensitycorrespondingtothefirstthreeSchumannresonantfrequenciesontheverydayoftheMS4.2HongheearthquakeofMay22,2011.ResearchshowsthatSchumannresonancemonitoringisafeasiblemethodforseismic-electromagneticprecursorsmonitoring.

简介：Thisstudytestedfivemethodswidelyusedinestimatingthecompletemagnitudes(MC)ofearthquakecatalogs.Usingcatalogsofobservedearthquakeproperties,wetesttheperformanceofthesefivealgorithmsunderseveralchallengingconditions,suchassmallvolumeofeventsandspatial-temporalheterogeneity,inordertoseewhetherthealgorithmsarestableandinagreementwithknowndata.Wefindthatthemaximumcurvaturemethod(MAXC)hasperfectstability,butwillsignificantlyunderestimateMCunlessheterogeneityisabsent.MCestimatedbytheb-valuestabilitymethod(MBS)requiresmanyeventstoreachastableresult.Resultsfromthegoodnessoffitmethod(GFT)wereunstablewhenheterogeneityloweredthefitnesslevel.Theentiremagnituderangemethod(EMR)isrelativelystableinmostconditions,andcanreflectthechangeinMCwhenheterogeneityexists,butwhentheincompletepartoftheearthquakecatalogisdismissed,thismethodfails.Themedian-basedanalysisofthesegmentslopemethod(MBASS)cantoleratesmallsamplesize,butisincapableofreflectingthemissingdegreeofsmalleventsinaftershocksequences.InconditionswhereMCchangesrapidly,suchasinaftershocksequences,observingthetimesequencedirectlycangiveapreciseestimationofthecompletesub-catalog,butonlywhenthenumberofeventsavailableforstudyislargeenoughcantheMAXC,GFT,andMBSmethodsgiveasimilarlyreliableestimation.
