FurfuralinaqueoussolutionwastreatedbyUV/O3method.Theresultsshowthattheremovalrateoffurfuralisseverelyenhancedandthesynergismphenomenonappearswhenultravioletandozonearepresenttogether.TheinfluencesofexperimentalparameterssuchaspH,theintensityoflightandthenegative-positiveionsonfurfuraldegradationwereinvestigated.Theresultsindicatethatfurfural(300mg/L)isalmostcompletelydegradedafter3hundertheoptimumconditions.TheintermediateinthefurfuraldegradationwascharacterizedbyGC-MSandIRspectrumandthedegradationmechanismoffurfuralbyUV/O3technologywasproposed.
