【摘要】Inhistory,acertaintypeofsocialcultureprovidessoilforgrowth,thusdeterminingthepathandpaceoftranslationdevelopment.Atthesametime,translationalsoshowsthecharacteristicsofthesociety.Tomeettheurgentdemandsofthecurrentmoderntime,scholarsandexpertsareexploringaneweducationalpatternoftranslationtocultivateinter-disciplinarytalentsintranslationforthemodernsociety.

I.Introduction

JustasAlfredW.PollardsaidwhenhedemonstratedtheimportanceofthetranslationoftheBible:Translationisthatopeneththewindow,toletinthelight;thatbreakeththeshell,thatwemayeatthekernel;thatputtethasidethecurtain,thatwemaylookintothemostHolyplace;thatremoveththecoverofthewell,thatwemaycomebythewater.Thesewordstrulyrevealthattranslationservesforthedemandofexchangesinsocialliterature,art,philosophy,scientifictechnology,politicsandeconomy,eventhatofmaintainingworldstabilityaswellasthepermanentpeace.Economicglobalizationhelpsusdrawuponadvancedtechnologiesandmanagementexperiencefromthemodernworldespeciallythedevelopedcountriesthusspeedingupthesocialistmodernizationconstruction.Themulti-leveledandall-roundcommunicationamongcountriesproducesaprevailingneedfortranslation.Meanwhile,greatchangesinlanguageservicesininformationagehavealreadytakenplace.

II.Characteristicsofthecurrentera

1.Symbolsofthisage

WiththerapiddevelopmentoftheInternetandtheexplosionofknowledge,weknowthatthisisanageforinformation.ComputersandtheInternetarebringingagooddealofinformationtous.Pushedbythepowerfulexplosionofinformationaswellastheeconomicandfinancialglobalization,exchangesinalmostallfieldshavereachedanunprecedentedhighlevelamongcountries.ChinahasbecomethemostpotentialcandidateintheglobalmarketbecauseanincreasinglygrowingnumberofChineseenterprisesaremarchingtowardstheinternationalmarket.

2.Socialchangesrelatedtotranslation

Thedevelopmentofcomputersindeedischangingvariouscirclesofourlifeincludingthatintranslation.Traditionaltranslationworkusedtobefinishedbyapen,apieceofpaperandadictionary.However,nowtranslatorscancompletewhateverkindoftranslationworkbymeansofacomputerwithInternet.

III.Requirementsforqualifiedtranslators

1.Competencestranslatorsshouldhave

Therapiddevelopmentoftheexport-orientedeconomycallsforlargenumbersofinter-disciplinaryandappliedtranslators.Languageserviceshaveundergoneradicalchangessincethenandthetranslationindustrycameintobeingthereafter.

Itisbelievedthatatleastthreeimportantcompetencesshouldbeemphasized:translationcompetence,informationtechnologycompetenceandcomprehensivecompetence.Amongthesethreecompetences,translationcompetenceisthefoundationforbilingualculturalcommunication,ITcompetenceisthepillarforfuturedevelopmentwhilecomprehensivecompetenceistheprerequisiteforthesuccessoftranslationwork.(俞敬松、王华树2010)

1.1Translationcompetence

Inthismoderntime,withplentyofinformationaroundus,translatorsshouldknowhowtomakegooduseofinternetresources.Thereforetheabilitiessuchasinformationprocessing,penetrationandcreativityshouldbeattachedimportanceto.

1.2InformationTechnologycompetence

Currently,thespreadingofinformationisnolongerlimitedtotimeandspace.Withnumerousnewtechnologies,newthingsandnewtermscomingoutallthetime,eventheexperiencedtranslatorswhohaveaverygoodknowledgeofEnglishcannothandlethetranslationworkiftheydonothurrytoequipthemselveswithnewskills.Allofthesechangesandimpactsarecallingforanewgenerationoftalentsintranslation.ComputersandtheInternethavealreadyhadgreatinfluencesontheworkingpatternsoftranslationespeciallyintechnologicaltranslationandthisinfluencekeepsgrowinginthefuture.Allinall,translatorsinthismodernsocietyshouldfirstofallbeacomputeruser.

1.3ComprehensiveCompetence

Translatorsininformationagearenolongerthosewhositinfrontofadeskplaying"wordgame"allday.Nowtheyappeartobemoresociety-oriented.FromsomeresearchesontranslatingmarketinGuangzhou,manypeoplefindtheirshortageofexperiencewhentheyarefacedwithtranslationwork.Inordertohelpthemselvesbecomeexperienced,translatorsshouldlearnsomethingabouthowtoworkasatranslatorinthesocialnetwork,howtofindclients,howtogetalongwiththetranslatingcompanies,andhowtomaintainagoodrelationshipwithtranslatingassociations.

2.Suggestionsforfuturetranslators

TherearemainlytwokindsoftranslatorsinthetranslationmarketworkingasprofessionaltranslatorsincludingthosewhospecializeincertaintechnicalfieldswithagoodcommandofEnglishandthosewhomajorinEnglishbuthavecertaintechnicalbackgrounds.

2.1Translationspeed

Enormousamountsofinformationrequiresthattranslationworkshouldbefinishedquicklyandcorrectly.Therefore,speedoftranslationhasbecomeanessentialskillfortranslatorslivinginthenewage.Forexample,inthepublicationmarket,popularbooksinforeigncountrieswillbeintroducedtoChinainaveryshortperiodoftime.Becauseofthefiercecompetitionamongpublishers,thepublisherswillshortenthetranslationtimeinordertoseizethemarketshares,forcingtranslatingcompaniesandtranslatorstocompleteagreatdealoftranslationworkverysoon.Howtoachievethebalancebetweenspeedandqualityisaveryheatedissueinthefieldoftranslationstudy.

2.2Computerskills

Althoughthiselementhasalreadybeenmentionedabove,westillhavetoemphasizethathowtomakeaneffectiveuseofcomputerasatoolandtheinternetresourceshasbecomeanessentialqualityfortranslatorsnowadays.Comparedwiththetranslatorsinthepast,translatorsnowneedtobeequippedwithmorepracticalandappliedskillssuchastheabilityofsettinguptermsandcorpusdatabase,documentsandinformationsearching,informationcollectionautomation，abridgedtranslationandeditingtranslation，compiling,proofreadingandlocalizationmanagement，aswellastheabilityofusingcomputer-aidedtranslationsoftwareandimage&wordprocessingsoftware.

IV.Conclusion

Todrawaconclusion,underthebackgroundsymbolizedwithinformationizationandglobalization,Chinanowisfacedwithunprecedentedopportunitiesandchallenges.Translation,asabridge,isnowbecomingatrulyvaluedindustry.Inthefutureoneortwodecades,theremaybeahugeshortagefortalentsespeciallytheinter-disciplinarytalentsintranslation.However,inthepastfewyears,traditionalcollegeeducation,mostofwhichattachedgreaterimportancetotheacademiceducation,cannotmeettheurgentdemandoftherapidly-developingtranslationindustry.PeoplefromtheNationalMinistryofEducation,universitiesandcollegesatvariouslevelsaswellasthoseworkingintranslationfieldarepersistinginexploringasetofreasonableandefficientpatternoftranslationeducation.
