Multiplesclerosis(MS)isachronicimmune-mediatedinnammatory-demyelinatingdisorderofthecentralnervoussystem,withastrongneurodegenerativecomponent.ThequestionwhetherneurodegenerationinMSisindependentorrelatedtoneuroinflammationhasbeenlongdebated,butnotyetfullyclarified.Furthermore,littleisstillknownonhowneuroinflammationandneurodegenerationinMSarerelatedtopotentialregenerativeprocesses.Inthisperspective,webrieflydiscussmainclinical,pathologicalandexperimentalevidenceontherelationshipbetweenneuroinflammationandneurodegenerationinMS,andontheirconnectionwithregeneration.WediscussthattheseprocessesinMSmightrepresentintercorrelatedmanifestationsoftheimmuneresponse,especiallyoftheinnateimmunity.
