Thepurposeofthisstudyistodeterminethefunctionsofuniversitiesanduniversities＇problemsintherealizationprocessofthesefunctionsaccordingtotheviewsoffacultymembersineducationfaculties.Theresearchdesignwasaholisticmultiplecasestudydesign.Intheselectionofthestudygroup（participants）,thecriteriasamplingmethod,whichisoneofthepurposivesamplingmethods,wasused.Semi-structuredinterviewswereused.Theresultsprovideinsightsintothefunctionsofuniversities,illustrateexperiencewithvariousproblems,andoutlinethemetaphorsdevelopedtodescribethefunctionsofuniversitiesbylecturers.Thisstudystrengthensthesocialandscientificframeworkofuniversitiesbasedoninformationprocessingandprovidesaconcretedescriptionaboutorganizationalprocessesinauniversityandhowauniversityputsintopracticeitsownfunctions.Thisstudyhasdemonsratedthatuniversitiesareeducation-orientedinstitutions.Therefore,thefunctionofscientificresearchofuniversitiesshouldbeactivatedbybeingawayfromtheeducation-orientedstructureoftheuniversities.
