摘要
Inthelasttwoyears,wehaveseenaremarkableintensificationintheresponsetoAIDSinChina.AnumberoforganizationshavejoinedandcontributedtotheeffortsoftheChinesegovernmentinrespondingtheAIDSepidemicinChina.ThisarticlespecificallydescribestheroleoftheUnitedNationsinsupportingandstrengtheningthoseresponses.AchievementsoftheUnitedNations(UN)highlightedinthearticleinclude:strengthenedleadershipandpoliticalcommitmenttorespondtoAIDS;improvedHIV/AIDSsurveillanceandinformation;expandedpreventionefforts;improvedtreatment,careandsupporttopeoplelivingwithHIVandincreasedresourcesforAIDSprograms.Additionalrolesofe.,onenationalplanonAIDS;onenationalcoordinatingauthorityforAIDS;andonemonitoringandevaluationsystemforAIDS.Inaddition,theUNsystemisexpectedtostrengthenalignmentandharmonizationofactivitiesofallinternationalorganizationsandimprovedaccountabilityandoversight.RemainingchallengesidentifiedincludeincreasingawarenessofAIDSandreducingstigmaanddiscrimination;reducingvulnerabilityandriskbehaviouramongspecificgroups;providingimprovedtreatment,careandsupportforpeoplelivingwithHIV;promotingstrongerengagementbycivilsociety,and;addressingthegenderdimensionsofAIDS.
