  • 简介:Objectives:Toevaluateaudiologicalandvestibularfunctionsviabasicaudiologicalevaluation,otoacousticemissionsandvideonystagmography(VNG)invitiligopatients.Materialandmethods:30vitiligopatients(8acrofacialand22mixedtypes)asthestudygroupand30normalhealthyadultsasthecontrolgroupwereincludedinthestudy.Allparticipantsweresubmittedtobasicaudiologicalevaluation,transientanddistortionproductotoacousticemmisions(TEOAEsandDPOAEs),vestibularassessmentincludinghistorytaking,officetestsandvideonystagmography(VNG)anddermatologicalassessmenttodeterminetype,percentofbodysurfaceareainvolvementanddurationofvitiligo.Results:Thisstudyshowedstatisticallysignificantdifferencebetweencontrolandstudygroupsinpuretoneaudiometry(PTA)andotoacousticemissionsresults.Fiftypercentofvitiligopatientshadperipheralvestibulardisorders(10vestibularneuritisand5posteriorcanalbenignparoxysmalpositionalvertigo.Conclusion:Theresultsinthisstudyshowedthat50%ofvitiligopatientssufferedfromperipheralvestibulardisordersinadditiontoauditoryaffection.Vitiligopatientsrequireroutinemonitoringforauditoryandvestibularfunctionsforearlyidentificationandmonitoringofchangesasthediseaseprogress.

  • 简介:AbstractVitiligo is a common depigmented skin disease that negatively affects the physical and mental health of patients. The 2018 version of the Vitiligo Treatment Consensus has been updated based on the research progress on vitiligo in the past 3 years in combination with the clinical experiences of experts. The newly revised points include maintenance therapy, early glucocorticoid intervention, and oral mini-pulsed glucocorticoid administration protocols. The prospect of using JAK inhibitors in the treatment of vitiligo is also discussed.

  • 简介:AbstractVitiligo, a common skin depigmentation disorder, is the result of complex interactions of genetic, immunological, environmental, and biochemical events. Treatments for vitiligo include drugs, phototherapy, surgical transplantation, and so on. Among them, the efficacy of narrow band-ultraviolet B has been confirmed. By inducing keratinocyte-derived factors and signalings, narrow band-ultraviolet B can trigger and/or promote the mobilization of melanocytes which migrate to lesional epidermis ultimately, leads to the repigmentation of white patches. The mobilization of melanocytes includes stages of activation, migration, proliferation, and differentiation. Elucidating processes that enable the specific mobilization of melanocytes and the signaling pathways and factors involved, will help the development of new drugs and methods for the treatment of vitiligo.

  • 简介:AbstractIntroduction:Vitiligo and psoriasis are common skin diseases, while its co-occurrence in one patient is rare.Here, we reported a patient with co-occurrence of vitiligo and psoriasis.Case presentation:An 11-year-old girl developed depigmented patches on her right chin for 6 months. The noticed areas of depigmented skin steadily increased in size with no clinical symptoms. Wood’s lamp examination and laser scanning confocal revealed the clinical diagnosis of co-occurrence of vitiligo and psoriasis.Discussion:Speculations related to co-pathogenesis of vitiligo and psoriasis are still elusive, some explanations of this phenomenon like of isomorphic reaction, shared genetic basis of autoimmunity and inflammation, shared cellular immune pathways including Th1, Th17 and related cellular molecules such as TNF-α, IFN-α, IL-17 have been reported.Conclusion:The analysis and summary of the underlying association in co-occurrence of psoriasis and vitiligo may amplify future therapeutic options for both disease. Clinicians should pay attention to the methods that could simultaneously improve these two conditions.

  • 简介:AbstractCurrent treatment of vitiligo is still a great challenge, since most cases of vitiligo have variable re-pigmentation outcomes due to their unpredictable responses to existing therapeutic regimens. There is an urgent need to identify this re-pigmentation process and to develop novel therapies. This review illustrates the most current research and latest understanding of vitiligo skin re-pigmentation and related regulatory mechanisms. Literature was collected from PubMed until January 2020, using the search terms including "vitiligo," "re-pigmentation," "phototherapy," "narrow-band ultraviolet B, " "excimer," "fractional carbon dioxide laser," and "melanocyte stem cells." Literature was mainly derived from English articles. Article type was not limited. Emerging evidence suggests that patients with vitiligo present various re-pigmentation patterns following ultraviolet B phototherapy, which relies on different cell reservoirs from the perilesional margins and/or from uninvolved hair follicles to replenish functional melanocytes that are lost in vitiliginous skin. The following events are likely to be involved in this re-pigmentation process, including: 1) changes in the paracrine secretion and distribution of transforming growth factor-β1 in the bulge area and in the epidermis; 2) the enhanced transfer of dermal pro-melanogenic growth factors to the epidermis; and 3) the induction of a C-X-C motif chemokine ligand (CXCL) 12-enriched micro-environment that efficiently recruits CXCR4-or CXCR7-positive melanocytes. Ongoing studies on the cellular and molecular events underlying vitiligo re-pigmentation will help design new therapeutic strategies to improve treatment outcomes.
