  • 简介:Byanalysisofobservationdata,thispaperdemonstratesthatpollutionparticlescouldreducesurfacewindspeedthroughblockingsolarradiationtotheground.ThecomparationbetweentemperatureatthelowlandmeteorologicalstationXi’anandthatoverthenearbyhighlandstationMt.HuasuggeststhatsurfacesolarradiationatXi’anisreducedduetotheincreasinganthropogenicaerosols.Thereducedsurfaceenergysuppressestheatmosphericinstabilityandconvectiveflows,andthusthedownwardtransferoffasterwindsaloftisreduced.Consequently,windspeedsnearsurfaceareweakened.Thisreductionofsurfacewindsisshownbythesignificantreversetrendsofwindspeedsoverthetwostationsatdifferentelevations.Theaerosols’effectsonwindsarealsomanifestedinthetrendsofradionsondewindspeed.ThedecreasedsurfacewindsinXi’anhavealsoreducedlocalpanevaporation.

  • 简介:Inthepresentstudy,astatisticalinvestigationiscarriedouttoexplorewhetherthereisarelationshipbetweenthecriticalfrequency(foEs)ofthesporadic-ElayerthatisoccasionallyseenontheEregionoftheionosphereandthequasibiennialoscillation(QBO)thatflowsintheeast–westdirectionintheequatorialstratosphere.Multipleregressionmodelasastatisticaltoolwasusedtodeterminetherelationshipbetweenvariables.Inthismodel,thestationarityofthevariables(foEsandQBO)wasfirstlyanalyzedforeachstation(CocosIsland,Gibilmanna,NiueIsland,andTahiti).Then,acointegrationtestwasmadetodeterminetheexistenceofalong-termrelationshipbetweenQBOandfoEs.Afterverifyingthepresenceofalong-termrelationshipbetweenthevariables,themagnitudeoftherelationshipbetweenvariableswasfurtherdeterminedusingthemultipleregressionmodel.Asaresult,itisconcludedthatthevariationsinfoEswereexplainablewithQBOmeasuredat10hPaaltitudeattherateof69%,94%,79%,and58%forCocosIsland,Gibilmanna,NiueIsland,andTahitistations,respectively.ItisobservedthatthevariationsinfoEswereexplainablewithQBOmeasuredat70hPaaltitudeattherateof66%,69%,53%,and47%forCocosIsland,Gibilmanna,NiueIsland,andTahitistations,respectively.

  • 简介:Fieldmeasurementofstrongwindcharacteristicsisofgreatsignificanceforthedevelopmentofbridgewindengineering.LocatedineastChina,theRunyangSuspensionBridge(RSB)withamainspanof1490misthelongestbridgeinChinaandthethirdlongestintheworld.Duringthelastfouryears,theRSBhassufferedfromtyphoonsandstrongnorthernwindsonmorethantenoccasions.TodeterminethestrongwindcharacteristicsoftheRSB,windmeasurementdataobtainedfromfieldtestsduringstrongwindsanddatafromthewindenvironmentmonitoringsubsystemofthestructuralhealthmonitoringsystem(SHMS)oftheRSBwerecombinedtoanalyzethewindspeedanddirection,variationinwindspeedwithheight,turbulenceintensity,turbulenceintegrallength,windfrictionspeedandthepowerspectrum.Comparativestudiesonthecharacteristicsofthesedifferentstrongwindswerecarriedoutbasedonthecurrentwind-resistantdesignspecificationforhighwaybridges.ResultsshowedthatsomeregularityinwindcharacteristicscanbefoundinthesedifferenttyphoonspassingthroughtheRSB.Thedifferencebetweenastrongnorthernwindandatyphoonisrelativelyclear,andinsummerthetyphoonisthedominantwindloadactingontheRSB.Inaddition,thereweresomedifferencesbetweenthemeasuredstrongwindcharacteristicsandthevaluessuggestedbythespecification,especiallyinrespecttoturbulenceintensityandturbulenceintegrallength.ResultsprovidemeasurementdataforestablishingastrongwindcharacteristicdatabasefortheRSBandfordeterminingthestrongwindcharacteristicparametervaluesofthiscoastalareaineastChina.

  • 简介:AnalgorithmforcomputationofcloudmotionwindshasbeendevelopedattheNationalSatelliteMeteorologicalCenterinChina.Since1997,ithasbeenappliedtocalculatethecloudmotionwindsfora1.25lat.×1.25long.meshoverthenorthwestPacificregionwiththesatellitedatafromGMS-5.Thedevelopmentofthetropicalcyclonesisstudied.Itshowsthatthetropicalcycloneisusuallyintriguedbythewesterlyjetstreamsattheupperlevelsofthetroposphere,whichmaybecausedbymid-latitudetroughswellextendingintothetropics.Duringtheprimeseasonofsummer,thewesterlyflowingequatorwardoftheTUTTmayalsobeacauseforthegenerationoftyphoons.

  • 简介:Meansealevelriseandclimatologicalwindspeedchangesoccuraspartoftheongoingclimatechangeandfutureprojectionsofbothvariablesarestillhighlyuncertain.HeretheBalticSea'sresponseinextremesealevelstoperturbationsinmeansealevelandwindspeedsisinvestigatedinaseriesofsimulationswithanewlydevelopedstormsurgemodelbasedonthenucleusforEuropeanmodelingoftheocean(NEMO)-Nordic.Asimplelinearmodelwithonlytwotunableparametersisfoundtocapturethechangesinthereturnlevelsextremelywell.Theresponsetomeansealevelriseislinearandnearlyspatiallyuniform,meaningthatameansealevelriseof1mincreasesthereturnlevelsbyaequalamounteverywhere.Theresponsetowindspeedperturbationsismorecomplicatedandreturnlevelsarefoundtoincreasemorewheretheyarealreadyhigh.ThisbehaviourisalarmingasitsuggeststhatalreadyfloodingproneregionsliketheGulfofFinlandwillbedisproportionallyadverselyaffectedinafuturewindierclimate.

  • 简介:Theresultsfromahybridapproachthatcombinesamesoscalemeteorologicalmodelwithadiagnosticmodeltoproducehigh-resolutionwindfieldsincomplexcoastaltopographyareevaluated.Thediagnosticwindmodel(CaliforniaMeteorologicalModel,CALMET)with100-mhorizontalspacingwasdrivenwithoutputsfromtheWeatherResearchandForecasting(WRF)modeltoobtainnear-surfacewindsforthe1-yearperiodfrom12September2003to11September2004.Resultswerecomparedwithwindobservationsatfoursites.Traditionalstatisticalscores,includingcorrelationcoefficients,standarddeviations(SDs)andmeanabsoluteerrors(MAEs),indicatethatthewindestimatesfromtheWRF/CALMETmodelingsystemareproducedreasonablywell.Thecorrelationcoefficientsarerelativelylarge,rangingfrom0.5to0.7forthezonalwindcomponentandfrom0.75to0.85forthemeridionalwindcomponent.MAEsforwindspeedrangefrom1.5to2.0ms-1at10metersabovegroundlevel(AGL)andfrom2.0to2.5ms-1at60mAGL.MAEsforwinddirectionrangefrom30to40degreesatbothlevels.AspectraldecompositionofthetimeseriesofwindspeedshowspositiveimpactsofCALMETinimprovingthemesoscalewinds.Moreover,combiningtheCALMETmodelwithWRFsignificantlyimprovesthespatialvariabilityofthesimulatedwindfields.ItcanbeconcludedthattheWRF/CALMETmodelingsystemiscapableofprovidingadetailednear-surfacewindfield,butthephysicsinthediagnosticCALMETmodelneedstobefurtherimproved.
