  • 简介:Thejumboflyingsquid(Dosidicusgigas)populationwassurveyedwiththehelpofChinesesquidjiggingvesselsofftheCostaRicaDome(4°–11°N,90°–100°W)in2009and2010.ThedailycatchofD.gigasinthetwosurveycruisesrangedfrom0to5.5tandwasmostlyobtainedfromtheareasboundedby6°–9°Nand91°–94°Wandby6°30′–7°30′Nand96°–97°W.Theseasurfacetemperatureintheareasyieldingthemostcatchrangedfrom27.5to29℃.Thesexratioofthetotalcatchwas3.75:1(female:male).Themantlelengthofthesquidrangedfrom211to355mm(male)andfrom204to429mm(female)withanaverageof297.9and306.7mm,respectively.Intherelationshipofthemantlelength(mm)andbodyweight(g)ofthesquid,therewasnosignificantdifferencebetweensexes.Thefemaleandmalewereatasimilarmaturity,andmostindividualsarematuringorhavematuredwithafewfemalesbeingspent.Thesize(mantlelength)andageatthefirstsexualmaturitywere297mmand195dinfemales,andlessthan211mmand130dinmales,respectively.Mostofthesampledstomachs(70.6%)hadnofoodremains.Themajorpreysofthesquidswerefish,cephalopodsandcrustaceans,withthemostabundantMyctophumorientaleandD.gigas.Thepreysinmorethan65%ofthenon-emptysampledstomachsevidencedthecannibalismofD.gigas.TheresultsimprovedcurrentunderstandingofthefisherybiologyofD.gigasofftheCostaRicaDome,whichmayfacilitatetheassessmentandmanagementofrelativefisheryresources.

  • 简介:Forapracticalsuperconductingquantuminterferencedevice(SQUID)basedmeasurementsystem,theTesla/voltcoefficientmustbeaccuratelycalibrated.Inthispaper,weproposeahighlyefficientmethodofcalibratingaSQUIDmagnetometersystemusingthreeorthogonalHelmholtzcoils.TheTesla/voltcoefficientisregardedasthemagnitudeofavectorpointingtothenormaldirectionofthepickupcoil.Byapplyingmagneticfieldsthroughathree-dimensionalHelmholtzcoil,theTesla/voltcoefficientcanbedirectlycalculatedfrommagnetometerresponsestothethreeorthogonallyappliedmagneticfields.Calibrationwithalternatingcurrent(AC)fieldisnormallyusedforbettersignal-to-noiseratioinnoisyurbanenvironmentsandtheresultsarecomparedwiththedirectcurrent(DC)calibrationtoavoidpossibleeffectsduetoeddycurrent.Inourexperiment,acalibrationrelativeerrorofabout6.89×10-4isobtained,andtheerrorismainlycausedbythenon-orthogonalityofthreeaxesoftheHelmholtzcoils.ThemethoddoesnotneedprecisealignmentofthemagnetometerinsidetheHelmholtzcoil.Itcanbeusedforthemultichannelmagnetometersystemcalibrationeffectivelyandaccurately.

  • 简介:Theneonflyingsquid,Ommastrephesbartramii,isaspeciesofeconomicallyimportantcephalopodintheNorthwestPacificOcean.Itsshortlifespanincreasesthesusceptibilityofthedistributionandabundancetothedirectimpactoftheenvironmentalconditions.Basedonthegeneralizedlinearmodel(GLM)andgeneralizedadditivemodel(GAM),thecommercialfisherydatafromtheChinesesquid-jiggingfleetsduring1995to2011wereusedtoexaminetheinterannualandseasonalvariabilityintheabundanceofO.bartramii,andtoevaluatetheinfluencesofvariablesontheabundance(catchperuniteffort,CPUE).TheresultsfromGLMsuggestedthatyear,month,latitude,seasurfacetemperature(SST),mixedlayerdepth(MLD),andtheinteractionterm(SST×MLD)weresignificantfactors.TheoptimalmodelbasedonGAMincludedallthesixsignificantvariablesandcouldexplain42.43%ofthevarianceinnominalCPUE.Theimportanceofthesixvariableswasrankedbydecreasingmagnitude:year,month,latitude,SST,MLDandSST×MLD.Thesquidwasmainlydistributedinthewatersbetween40?Nand44?NintheNorthwestPacificOcean.TheoptimalrangesofSSTandMLDwerefrom14to20℃andfrom10to30m,respectively.Thesquidabundancegreatlyfluctuatedfrom1995to2011.TheCPUEwaslowduring1995–2002andhighduring2003–2008.Furthermore,thesquidabundancewastypicallyhighinAugust.Theinterannualandseasonalvariabilitiesinthesquidabundancewereassociatedwiththevariationsofmarineenvironmentalconditionsandthelifehistorycharacteristicsofsquid.
