简介:WiththeeverincreasingpopularityofinternationalstandardizedEnglishproficiencytests,thetesttakers’crazeforthemhasneverbeengreater.However,theissueoftheinequitywhichcomesfromthelegitimateknowledgewhichdecidesatest-taker’sscorehasn’tbeenfullyexposed.ThetheoreticalstudyofthisissueinthispaperhelpsexplorethelegitimateknowledgetestedininternationalEnglishproficiencytests.ByexaminingthelegitimateknowledgeinthesampletestsofIELTSandTOEFL,thestudyrevealstheunderlyingbiaswhichconstitutesadecentscoreforthetesttakers.Intheend,thestudyproposesamorebalancedassessmentmodelfordiscussion.
简介:ThepurposeofthepresentstudywastouseCoh-Metrix,acomputationaltool,toexaminetherelationshipbetweendiscoursecoherenceandwritinglevel,andanalyzethecoherenceofhighlevelwritingandlowlevelwriting.Thestudyuses5Coh-Metrixvariablestoanalyze40collegestudents’timedcompositionsfromChineseLearnersEnglishofCorpus(CLEC)andtheircorrespondingreadabilityscores.ThestudydemonstratesthatCoh-Metrixvariables,numberofwords,wordspersentences,theFlesch-KincaidGradeLevel,LSAsentenceall,andargumentoverlapcancontributetotextcoherence.Findingsofthestudyindicate:thereisarelationshipbetweendiscoursecoherenceandwritinglevel,butthereisnosignificantdifferencebetweenhighlevelgroupandlowlevelgroupindiscoursecoherence(p=.409>.05),andwritinglevelcannotdistinguishdiscoursecoherenceinEFLlearners’writing.
