  • 简介:<正>Purpose:Todeterminetheintra-testerreliabilityofclinicalmeasurementsthatassessfivecomponentsrelatedtocorestability:strength.endurance,flexibility,motorcontrol,andfunction.Methods:Participantswere15college-agedmaleswhohadnotsufferedanyorthopedicinjuryinthepastyear.Corestrengthmeasurementsincludedeightisometrictestsandasit-uptest.Thefourcoreendurancetestswerethetrunkflexortest,trunkextensortest,andbilateralsidebridgetests.Flexibilitytestsincludedthesit-and-reachtestandactiverangeofthetrunkandhipjointmotions.Proprioceptionviapassiverepositiontestsofthehipsandasinglelimbbalancetestonanunsteadyplatformwereusedtoevaluatecoremotorcontrol.Functionalmeasurementsconsistedofasquattestandasingleleghoptestfortimeanddistance.Measurementswereperformedduringtwodatacollectionsessionswithaweek’srestbetweenthesessions.Intra-classcorrelationcoefficientswerecalculatedtoestablishreliability.Results:Theoverallintra-raterreliabilityforallcorestabilityrelatedmeasurementsrangedfromlow(ICC=0.35,lefthipreposition)toveryhigh(ICC=0.98,sit-and-reach).Asagroup,thecoreendurancetestswereobservedtobethemostreliable.Conclusion:Therearehighlyreliabletestsineachofthefivegroups.Overall,coreendurancetestsarethemostreliablemeasurements,followedbytheflexibility,strength,neuromuscularcontrol,andfunctionaltests,respectively.

  • 简介:Background:Theuseofnutritionalsupplements(NS)amongathletesiswidespread.However,littleisknownabouttherelationshipbetweennutritionaladequacyandNSusage.TheaimsofthisstudyweretoevaluatetheNSusageandtocomparethenutritionalintakefromfoodandprevalenceofmicronutrientinadequacy(PMI)betweenNSusersandnon-users.Methods:Portugueseathletesfrom13sportscompletedanNSusagequestionnaireandasemi-quantitativefood-frequencyquestionnaireassessinginformationovertheprevious12months.Theestimatedaveragerequirementcut-pointmethodwasusedtocalculatePMI.GenerallinearmodelswereusedtocomparenutritionalintakeandNSusage.Chi-squaredtestsandlogisticregressionwereperformedtostudy,respectively,relationshipsandassociationsbetweenPMIandNSusage.Results:Fromthe244athletes(66%males,13–37years),64%reportedNSusage.Afteradjustment,NSusersshowedahigherintakefromfood(p<0.05),foratleast1gender,forenergy,andfor7ofthe17studiednutrients.ThehighestPMIwereseenforvitaminsDandE,calcium,folate,andmagnesium.Afteradjustment,NSusers,irrespectiveofgender,reportedlowerPMIforcalcium(OR=0.28,95%CI:0.12–0.65),andfemaleusersformagnesium(OR=0.06,95%CI:0.00–0.98).Conclusion:AthletesusingNSreportedahighernutritionalintakefromfood,andalowerPMIforseveralnutrients.Perhaps,thosewhoweretakingNSwereprobablytheoneswhowouldleastbenefitfromit.

  • 简介:Purpose:Thisstudywastoinvestigatetheassociationbetweenulnarvariance(UV)andbiologicalandtrainingcharacteristics,handgrip,andwristpaininagroupof23Portugueseskeletallyimmaturemalegymnasts(aged11.22.5years).Methods:LeftandrightUVwasobtainedusingHafner'sprocedureandskeletalagewasdeterminedbytheTannereWhitehouse3-method.AnegativemeanvalueforUVmeasureswasobserved(2.4to3.6mm)withoutsignificantdifferenceswithincreasingage-category(p=0.09top=0.48).SignificantlowcorrelationswereobservedbetweensomeUVparametersandstature,fatpercentage,yearsoftraining,andlefthandgripstrength.Results:TengymnastsreportedwristpainwithgradualonsetandUVvalueswereverysimilarbetweenpainlessandpainfulwrists.Conclusion:ThefindingsofthisstudydonotdirectlysupportthethesisthatgymnasticstrainingandbiologicalvariablesorwristpainareassociatedwithUV.

  • 简介:Background:Motorcompetenceandhealth-relatedfitnessareimportantcomponentsforthedevelopmentandmaintenanceofahealthylifestyleinchildren.Thisstudyexaminedcross-culturalperformancesonmotorcompetenceandhealth-relatedfitnessbetweenPortugueseandU.S.children.Methods:Portuguese(n=508;10.14±2.13years,mean±SD)andU.S.(n=710;9.48±1.62years)childrenperformedtestsofcardiorespiratoryfitness(ProgressiveAerobicCardiovascularEnduranceRun),upperbodystrength(handgrip),locomotorskillperformance(standinglongjump),andobjectprojectionskillperformance(throwingandkicking).PortugueseandU.S.childrenweredividedinto2agegroups(6à9and10à13years)fordataanalysispurposes.Atwoàfactoroneàwayanalysisofcovariance(ANOVA)wasconductedwiththeProgressiveAerobicCardiovascularEnduranceRun,handgrip,standinglongjumpscores,kicking,andthrowingspeed(km/h)asdependentvariables.Results:ResultsindicatedthatPortuguesechildren,irrespectiveofsex,presentedbetterperformancesinlocomotorandcardiorespiratoryperformance(standinglongjumpandProgressiveAerobicCardiovascularEnduranceRun)thanU.S.childreninbothagebands.U.S.childrenoutperformedPortuguesechildrenduringthrowingandhandgriptests.Kickingtestspresentedgenderdifferences:PortugueseboysandU.S.girlsoutperformedtheirinternationallymatchedcounterparts.Conclusion:Culturaldifferencesinphysicaleducationcurriculaandsportsparticipationmayimpactdifferencesinmotorcompetenceandfitnessdevelopmentinthesecountries.
