An experimental investigation of properties of polyethylene reinforced with AI powders

摘要 Mechanicalandphysicalproperties,suchastensilestrength,elongationatbreak,modulusofelasticity,ShoreDhardness,meltflowrate(MFR),andelectricalandthermalconductivitiesofcompositeswithhighdensitypolyethylenematrixreinforcedwithAlpowderswereinvestigatedexperimentally.Measurementsofthemechanicalandphysicalpropertieswereperformeduptoareinforcingcomponentconcentrationof30%volumeAlpowderandcomparedwithmathematicalmodelsfromtheliterature.Theobtainedresultshaveshownthatexperimentaldatawereingoodagreementwiththeoreticaldata.Theultimatetensilestrength(UTS)andelongationatbreakdecreasedwithincreasingAlpowdercontent,whichwasattributedtotheintro-ductionofdiscontinuitiesinthepolymerstructure,andmodulusofelasticityincreasedwithincreasingAlcontent.Thecompositepreparationconditionsallowedtheformationofarandomdistributionofmetallicparticlesinthepolymermatrixvolumeforsystemhighdensitypolyethylene-Al(HDPE-Al).TherewasaclusterformationofAlparticlesathigherAlcontentsinthepolymermatrix.ElectricalandthermalconductivityvaluesofHDPE-AlcompositeswerehigherthanpureHDPEvalues.
