摘要
Thecomputationoftherepresentativegroundmotions,tobeusedasinputforthedynamicanalysesofastruc-tureataparticularsite,canbeapproachedbyseveralmethods.Thechoiceoftheapproachdependsontwofactors:theda-taavailableandthetypeofproblemtobesolved.Thispaperreportstheexperienceoftheauthorsinapproachingaspecificcasestudy:theSouthernMemnonColossus,locatedinLuxor,Egypt.Theresultsareofinterestwhenthehazardanalysisestimationindevelopingcountriesandthesafeguardofculturalheritageareconcerned.Monumentshavetobetreatedasimportantstructures,duetotheirhistoricalandeconomicalvalue.Hence,standardproceduresofprobabilisticseismichaz-ardanalysisfortheseismicclassificationofcommonbuildingshavetobedisregarded.Ontheotherhand,theconsequencesofthecollapseofamonumentarenotcomparabletothoserelatedtostructuressuchasnuclearpowerplantsandlargedams,forwhichthedeterministicseismichazardanalysisprovidesastraightforwardframeworkforevaluationoftheworstcaseone,isadopted.Itsstochasticcomponentcancapturesignificantcharacteristicsofearthquakes,primarilythefrequencycontentswhichdependonthemagnitude(oftenreferredtoastheearthquakescalinglaw).
