Efficient offline production of freestanding thin plastic foils for laser-driven ion sources

摘要 Modernchirpedpulseamplificationlasersystemswithcontinuouslyimprovingcontrollabilityandincreasingpowerareabouttoreachintensitiesofupto10~(22)Wcm~(-2)andhaveproventheirpotentialtoaccelerateionsoutofplasmatoseveraltenspercentofthespeedoflight.Forenablingapplication,oneimportantstepistoincreasetherepetitionrateatwhichionbunchesareatthedisposal.Inparticular,techniquesusedsofarforthinfoiltargetproductioncanrequireseveraldaysofpreparingreasonableamountsforasinglecampaign.Inthispaperwedescribethereasonablydropletmethodwhichwehavetestedandimprovedsothattheemergingfoilswiththicknessesofafewnanometresuptomicrometrecanbeusedastargetsforlaserionacceleration.Theirqualityandperformancecancompetewithsofaremployedtechniquestherebyenablingtheproductionofhundredsoftargetsperday.
