ThisarticleexploresthedynamicsoftheDiaspora’sdualloyaltiestowardstheirhomecountriesandhostcountriesbyusingAmericanJewryasacasestudy.Itarguesthatinliberal-democraticstates,theshiftintheDiaspora’sloyaltytowardsthehomelandvis-à-visthehostlandisaresultofthechangetothehostland’sperceptionofwheretheacceptableboundaryoftheDiaspora’spracticeofdualloyaltiesis,orinotherwords,towhatextenttheDiaspora’ssupportofthehomelandisperceivedtobeacceptablebytheirhostland.Thereconstructionofthisboundaryisdeterminedbyfourfactors:thedegreeofpoliticalcoordinationbetweenhomestatesandhoststates,theattemptofthehomestatetomobilizeitsdiasporas,themeansadvocatedandsupportedbytheDiaspora,andtheseverityofpotentialconsequencesduetotheDiaspora’saction.
