摘要
Biometricstechnologieshavebeenaroundforquitesometimeandmanyhavebeendeployedfordifferentapplicationsallaroundtheworld,rangingfromsmallcompanies’timeandattendancesystemstoaccesscontrolsystemsfornuclearfacilities.Biometricsofferareliablesolutionfortheestablishmentofthedistinctivenessofidentitybasedon"whoanindividualis",ratherthanwhatheorsheknowsorcarries.BiometricSystemsautomaticallyverifyaperson’sidentitybasedonhis/heranatomicalandbehavioralcharacteristics.Biometrictraitsrepresentastrongandundeviatinglinkbetweenapersonandhis/heridentity,thesetraitscannotbeeasilylostorforgottenorfaked,sincebiometricsystemsrequiretheusertobepresentatthetimeofauthentication.Somebiometricsystemsaremorereliablethanothers,yettheyareneithersecurenoraccurate,allbiometricshavetheirstrengthsandweaknesses.Althoughsomeofthesesystemshaveshownreliabilityandsolidarity,workstillhastobedonetoimprovethequalityofservicetheyprovide.Presentedistheavailablestandingbiometricsystemsshowingtheirstrengthsandweaknessesandalsoemergingtechnologieswhichmayhavegreatbenefitsforsecurityapplicationsinthenearfuture.
